SHALFORD CRICKET CLUB 2017

Now in our 153rd season, it promises to be another exciting season for Shalford Cricket Club. Having proved in 2016 that our 1st XI could successfully compete in Division 2 of the I’Anson League, we will be looking to better last year’s mid-table finish. This will important at the end of the season, as the divisions will be restructured into smaller divisions, meaning fewer promotion places and more teams being relegated!

Meanwhile our 2nd XI continue to have a mixture of experienced players and Colts (both boys and girls) turning out on a weekly basis. The aim for this season is to improve the consistency of our cricket, as too often a resounding victory one weekend is followed by a crumbling defeat the next.

Speaking of Colts, we operate a very popular Colts section which meets on Monday evenings led by our five qualified coaches, which means we have one of the highest Coach-Junior ratios in Surrey! Last year we ran an incredible 18 sessions (accompanied by 4 BBQs) and played several matches against other sides in the area. We take children between the ages of 7-16, both boys and girls. Indeed, girls now make up a quarter of all our junior members.

As ever we are always on the lookout for new players, whatever your skill level. We certainly don’t require a regular commitment, as we realise weekends are precious. Even if you would only like to play a few games please get in touch; we have plenty of members who only play a few games a season. Generally, if there’s a weekend you would like to play we can usually fit you into one of our XI’s, either a League match on a Saturday or a friendly match on a Sunday afternoon. And not to mention a great tea!

This season Shalford Cricket Club is combining with a group of Shalford Dads (who play occasional T20 matches), to form the Shalford Legends and they will be competing in a local midweek T20 competition. So again, if this is something which interests you please do get in touch. Our winter nets currently take place at Broadwater School in Farncombe on Saturday mornings between 11am – 1pm, and then from April onwards our outdoor net sessions will commence outside the Pavilion, usually on Thursday evenings. Anyone is welcome to attend.
